Welcome back to Whittemore! In all art classes, we will be following our current art curriculum map. The Kindergarten students will be learning about and drawing geometric shapes, along with making their own art folder. The first graders will also be starting their art folders using primary(red, blue, yellow) and secondary(green, purple, and orange) colors. We will be mixing watercolors and creating an undersea painting in the second grade, while we will explore geometric and organic shapes in the third grade. The fourth graders will be exploring various brushstrokes (with an owl painting in tempera paint) and the fifth graders will be focusing on art vocabulary. For this last full week of school, students will be taking home their completed art projects! The Kindergarteners have been working on their own "Alphabet Book", writing and illustrating each letter. We are also finishing up our piggy bank projects in the Friday class. The first graders have taken home their 3D mouse sculptures this week; I will be giving back other drawings on Thursday and Friday. The second grade students will be completing their 2D printmaking series, complete with numbered prints! The third graders will take home their Arctic animal project, while the fourth graders will have their owl sculptures. The fifth graders will have their mask assemblage to take home.
During the summer, I will be teaching art in Summer School at the Plympton School from July 8th-July 19th, and at Whittemore from July 22nd-August 2nd. If any student needs their own guitar strings replaced please contact me at the respective schools. Grade 4 students will finish their desert landscape and paint their 3D owl sculptures. In grade 3, the students will complete their 3D Arctic animal sculptures while the second graders finish their underwater creature sculptures. The fifth grade class will be continuing their linear perspective drawing project; we are drawing a cityscape in perspective, including details and a looming creature in the far distance. Grade 4 students are woking on their 3D house project, along with a clay form lesson. Arctic animals will be the 3rd grade 3D lesson this week; the second graders will finish up their 3D underwater animal sculpture and/or their origami sketchbooks. Grade 1 students will be reading and creating mice for their art projects, while the Kindergarteners will be drawing animals you see in the springtime.
All of the students at Whittemore are creating projects for our PTO fundraiser. Kindergarten students will draw a self portrait by using crayons and a mirror; students in the first grade will make a family portrait using crayons. Grade 2 students have painted an underwater scene using crayon resist and watercolor paints, while the third graders have painted a penguin in a landscape. "Fun Food" is the 4th grader's project, using collage, or cut paper and glue. Fifth grade students will create their own original artwork.
